This month, we let the music of the Delbert Anderson Trio whisk us away. This group features Navajo musician Delbert Anderson and was born from a love of jazz music and need to jam. Their album, titled “Manitou,” highlights the trio’s ability to stretch music to create a big sound. Echoes of Native culture are heard in some of the compositions, as well as some pretty funky beats. Native Americans have really made a splash on the contemporary music scene,  including the world of jazz. For over a decade GRAMMY winning recording artist John-Carlos Perea (Mescalero Apache/Chicano) has created music that not only blends music styles but instruments and sounds from Native American culture like the cedar flute and powwow singing.
