Mvskoke Nation artist Joy Harjo is known for her moving poetry. This month’s book spotlight is on her latest work “Conflict Resolution for Holy Beings,” which covers Native history and life. Knowing the important role that poets play in our societies, including bringing forth justice and helping to give vision, Joy follows suit with this collection of words that evoke images. Trevino L. Brings Plenty (Cheyenne River Sioux) started writing when he was a teenager. Over the past 10 years, his writing has evolved from a hobby to published works of poetry. His latest publication, “Wakpá Wanági,Ghost River,” is a reflection on his life and people. The book features poems that explore the writer’s connection to his homeland in South Dakota and his interactions with people and place as a social worker in Oregon. We invite you to celebrate National Poetry Month (#npm15) with us and our April Book of the Month author —Trevino L. The character Sadie Walela is back on the scene with a new adventure in the novel “Sinking Suspicions” by Cherokee author Sara Sue Hoklotubbe. It’s the third book in Hoklotubbe’s series set in Oklahoma. This story follows Sadie, a thirty-something Cherokee heroine, to Hawaii as she picks up a new profession as a travel agent. Meanwhile back home a missing neighbor sets the scene for a twisting mystery. Find out what happens when Sadie and the cast of characters start unravel the unknown on the next Native America Calling. We’ll be joined by Sara Sue Hoklotubbe, our March Book of the Month author.

Six Nations musician Robbie Robertson (Mohawk) has shared his rhythms and lyrics with the world for decades. Today his son Sebastian Robertson is helping Robbie give more insight into his own story. Sebastian’s book “Rock & Roll Highway: The Robbie Robertson Story” is aimed at young readers but those young at heart have a lot to embrace too. Colorful illustrations chronicle Robbie’s journey from a young person to the heights of his musical career. Readers can connect with the people and places that Robbie liked to along the way, including Buddy Holly and Bob Dylan.
