There are many programs to help people get sober. But after a period of time free from alcohol or drug use, some people begin using again, or relapse. The National Institutes of Health estimate that relapse rates are between 40-60 percent. The holidays can be a particularly difficult time for those who are newly sober. Why does relapse happen?
