An Oregon-based program aims to help Native American teens make better decisions when it comes to sex. Organizers with the STAND program hope their weekly education sessions that incorporate culture and language will help cut rates for sexually-transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies. They are among several culturally-based programs that see a need for solid, research-based curricula to help teens get the basics about sex education.

I work for the Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community in Scottsdale, AZ. I am a Native STAND Health Educator. This is my first year teaching the Native STAND program here in SRPMIC, I have about 15 students in my afterschool program. So far my students are really enjoying the program and enjoy participating in the program….This program is amazing and can really help students to developing health relationships and make good choices.
