A stroke is an event where blood flow is cut off from the brain and cells begin to die. Stroke is the seventh leading cause of death for American Indians and Alaska Natives, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Nationwide, 1 in 20 deaths are a result of stroke.
