Monday’s event honoring Native American Code Talkers should have been a solemn occasion to honor the heroic efforts of Native veterans. It was also a chance for President Trump to send a message of inclusiveness and respect to Native nations. Instead, with one word, the president managed to unite Native leaders, organizations and citizens against him. What can Trump do now to make amends to veterans and others he offended? Does anyone expect him to do it?

I thought what Trump said and did was totally disrespectful. I really don’t believe he cares, despite what he said about caring from his heart. He was totally out of place and didn’t know how to be respectful. He resorted to making a joke that was totally ignorant and tried to make up for it by appearing heartfelt, but it was all a sham. He doesn’t have an ounce of caring for native people. He showed his total disrespect for native people.

In a never ending struggle to have the true identity of so many well known Natives.Truly understood
To have the person who is suppose to represent the entire nation with respect and dignity.
Blurt out such an indignant statement speaks to how little the rest of the country understands how much hurt and bitterness that kind of thing can continue to foster and support.
Mr. President needs to not only man up, but grow up
